The annual Grio Awards (rewarding black excellence) took place in Beverly Hills over the weekend. I love that legends are tributing legends. All the Mariah Carey tributes courtesy of Patti Labelle, Jennifer Hudson and Coco Jones were somewhat solid. But Mariah Carey songs can only truly be delivered by the woman herself. I wasn't a fan of Coco Jones vocals when she performed "One Sweet Day" with Boyz II Men. If there's any artist out there that has a vocal likeness to Mariah's it would be Tamia, Tamar Braxton and Deborah Cox.
As a result of this, I wasn't fully engaged with the performances just on how drastically different they all sound. But that's just me being overly protective of Mariah's music because she is one of my favourite artists (alongside Tamia of course). That said, she DID seem to enjoy the tributes and that's all that matters.
Full tribute and speech below.

Just the thought of Tamia & Boyz II Men singing that song, my ears are in Heaven…Oh What could have been!!
Coco did a solid job tho.
Patti was *chief kiss*
I usually enjoy JHud renditions but vision of love too sacred to change the melody that much (but that’s sth Mariah appreciates so there is that).
Tamar should have been there at least…specially since Mariah her idol.
