Chlöe Bailey, who is signed to Beyoncé's Parkwood record label, visited ‘The Breakfast Club’ this week. She used the platform to silence critics who say that her mentor Beyoncé could have done more to promote her new album 'In Pieces.' The album garnered relatively disappointing album sales - debuting at 119 on the Billboard 200 in its first week.
Hosts Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy asked Chlöe whether she places any blame on Beyoncé. They are heard telling her, "The internet felt like Beyoncé should've done more in regards to promoting your album." Chlöe replied: "I love B and she supported my sis and I since we had our little locs on YouTube so it's all love over here, I love her."
Since it was obvious that Chlöe was skirting around the question, this prompted DJ Envy to double down further on Beyoncé's lack of public support. He said, "Everyone was saying because Beyoncé didn't post [your album]...How did that make you feel?"
Chlöe replied, "I was like, 'At least they're talking.' And at least people will go and listen to the project. And as much as people try to bring up numbers and things like that, I'm trending every other day. Marketing can't buy that. A label can't buy that. So people care enough to constantly have my name in their mouth. So, I'm doing something right. If it was real what people were saying, my tours wouldn't be sold-out. People wouldn't be singing word-for-word on an album I just dropped a week and a half ago. That's what I have to switch my perspective to — instead of allowing others and people who aren't doing anything with themselves or their lives dim my light."
Are people purposely trying to dim her light, or are they just speaking facts? Chlöe doesn't want to publicly acknowledge the facts, because she knows it's true. As her mentor, Beyoncé could have done more. As mentioned previously, Beyoncé found the time to jump on Instagram to promote the albums of her sisters Solange and Kelly Rowland, but could not give Chlöe the same courtesy.
We're very aware she's been in Paris doing gruelling rehearsals for her upcoming 'Renaissance' tour which takes place in less than 20 days. However, as a mentor, Beyoncé should have been posting Chlöe all over her socials. Every performance. Every video premiere. And more importantly, links to download the project. Most celebrities of her calibre have a social media correspondent to do posts, and she could have done that if she didn't have the time to do it herself. Chlöe knows this looks bad, but would never say it out loud for fear of being seen as disrespectful. She did the right thing keeping it cute, because criticising B would be career suicide. No matter how much a journalist or radio host tries to provoke her into criticising her mentor, it will never happen. It's nice her tour sold out. She has every right to take pride in her 3,000-seater venues selling out. Again... the smaller victories count just as much.
Was that shade about the 3000 seater lol
ReplyDeleteNot intentionally 😄
ReplyDeleteBeyoncé barely even promoted her own damn album yet alone anyone else's. Kelly Rowland's last album was 10 years ago, Solange's over 4 years ago.
ReplyDeleteBeyoncé has done so much for Chloe (and Halle). The fact they've been able to perform on multiple major award shows, cover virtually every magazine, talk shows, and have a variety of endorsements all without a smash hit is unheard of! That's Bey using her power and influence to get these girls in the room.
ReplyDeleteLet’s be for real she has posted Solange and Kelly music in the past (as well as ChloexHalle music and she posted Chloe’s singles in her stories) and it did nothing for their sales. Chloe was booked on Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, ABC Nightline, Tamron Hall, The Today Show all within the week to promote her movie and album but let y'all tell it an ig post would have made a world of difference.
That part. People give too much importance and power to one, demonic human-being, when at the end of the day she's just a human being like anybody else.
DeleteTBH Chloe’s sales are on par with her peers. HER, Ari Lenox, etc… all did 10-30k their first week. Although she does have a much bigger machine behind her, she was never gonna do anything major. Unless you are a music giant (Beyoncé, Drake, Nicki) you aren’t gonna put up anything impressive. No one is selling albums anymore even if you have a hot single, it’s still not guaranteed. There is no money in record sales anymore anyway so chloe should feel proud because the money is in touring and endorsements and she is doing well in those regards.
