The latest Whitney Houston biopic 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody' is flopping. This week it pulled in $1.9 million for a 3-day of $4.7 million. It failed to reach the anticipated $5.3 million — and a 4-day of $6.8 million. Sony spent $45 million on production but at this rate it doesn't look like they are going to secure their target goal of $12 million.
It didn't help that most of the country was suffering terrible cold and snow so attendance was bound to be affected. Also, Naomi Ackie’s looks were really distracting to a lot of people. She just doesn't resemble Whitney AT ALL, and Whitney's beauty was a major part of her appeal as well as her talent. She was a very photogenic model before she became a professional singer and something like that can't and shouldn't be ignored. Ask yourselves, would they cast Khia to play Beyoncé?
Secondly, the actress is British and she had to have dialect lessons from several coaches when they could easily have hired an African American actress to play the role and not just someone with a slight rasp. The actress did her best with what she was given, but with this being the FIRST official major screen biopic on the pop icon, better choices could certainly have been made. That said, streaming numbers will most likely be much better.

I have no interest in seeing since there's no meat and potatoes in this film. Just a celebration of Whitney's career milestones and talent that is meant for the fans who only care for her that way.
Pat Houston and Clive Davis had their input in this so... go figure.
I saw it and they hit the drug use and the lesbian relationship w Robin in detail. They didn’t hold back like we thought they would.
I saw it and all I kept thinking is this chick looks like the MAD TV lady who effortlessly played WH in hilarious skits. Lol
