“Confessions” wasn’t about Janet - it was written in 2003 and released in 2004. Janet and Jermaine officially got together in 2002 and split in 2009; she said in her documentary that one of the reasons they split was because she’d heard he’d cheated on her but towards the end of the relationship, not the beginning. Jermaine admits he wrote the song about confessing to cheating on several exes.
Via Google:
Dupri and Jackson dated from 2000 to 2008. Following their split, Jackson married billionaire Wissam Al Mana and welcomed her son, Eissa Al Mana. Jackson split from Wissam in December 2020.
He admitted cheating during their relationship so the timeline definitely matches up.
https://www.newsweek.com/janet-jackson-relationship-timeline-documentary-lifetime-e-1674002?amp=1 The timeline doesn’t really add up at all, even if they did start dating in 2000. That would imply he cheated on her throughout the entirety of their relationship and had the nerve to state as much at the beginning of it. Also Jermaine has stated that the part about having to tell the girlfriend about a pending baby is true - his first daughter was born in 1998, 4 years before he officially got with Janet, and his second daughter in 2010 a year after they split.
