Normani says she’s “disappointed” after being overlooked by the VMAs to perform. “I think it forces me to validate myself,” she tells Q99.7 Atlanta. “I’m talented. It has nothing to do with me. It’s just a decision that somebody else made, which is out of my control. I would love to perform.” She hasn't performed her song on TV or at any of the latest music festivals even though she had every opportunity to do so. Now she feels entitled to perform on the big stage at the VMAs despite no efforts prior?
Her Cardi B assisted single 'Wild Side' is pretty much old at this point. Fans started a hashtag movement last week when she confirmed she had not been booked. The problem here is that her fans are only setting her up when they fuel her ego, and now she feels entitled although almost everything about her is very unremarkable. Boring personality. Horrible ear for hit songs. Laziness. She disappears for two years and gives us nothing. Not even an EP, a mixtape, VEVO performance, n-o-t-h-i-n-g. She's not quite getting the memo yet that a few A-List celebrity endorsements does not mean she's made it. Also... going solo is like starting all over again, and being part of a girl group previously doesn't factor any more.
But thats because she is still getting a lot of attention for the star that she is, to be honest. I mean, she does not have a hit and In think because she is booked as a stripper/model by Rihanna and Beyonce makes her think that she is on their level. She had two good and successful features, but no hit under her name. And all she does now is to brag why she was not asked to perform at one of the biggest shows and to twerk around in chaps and show her coochie. I'm sorry, but thats all she is showing these days. Stripper moves.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say Wildside was strictly stripper moves lol. She is very versatile with her dancing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your assessment Toya. Someone needs to show her Beyonce working the carpet that Aaliyah was WERKING lol. Show her Bey's first flop movies and Work it Out single. Bey had to start over as a solo artist in every aspect. She paid her dues though. We can't keep leaning on the dark skinned thing. Normani needs to stop talking and go work.
ReplyDeleteI’m definitely still rooting for her. I just think the timing of the release for Wild Side happened at a bit prematurely. Her team definitely didn’t strategize strategically. Also, the release of her album isn’t until December which is pretty far fetched considering the lack promo performances. With today’s musical climate literally being like fast food consistency is so pivotal. She had her chance at the VMA’s with Motivation and nothing came of it so I just feel like she has a lot to prove.
ReplyDeleteDecember?! I doubt it. Christmas is almost here.

ReplyDeleteThe difference between Beyoncè & Normani was not just skin tone but the fact that DC's success already made Beyoncè a BONAFIDE STAR! Say My Name was already a #1 smash hit by the time Try Again/Romeo Must Die was about to come out. Beyoncè working the Red Carpet for the MTV Movie Awards, doing the MTV Spring Break, the Carmen movie, the Survivor album special with Ananda Lewis was building a relationship with MTV, which led to DC headlining the TRL Tour! Then you add her Pepsi/L'oreal/Barbie endorsements while she still in the group, before Work It Out came out!
No disrespect to Normani BUT, DC's success made Beyoncè look like a STAR & a BOSS, while 5th Harmony & Camilla's success made Normani look like a victim & a stepchild! And Beyoncè got waaaaaay more scrutiny for DC's controversy/member changes than Normani got for 5th Harmony's breakup!
