People seem to forget that in the year 2003, Beyoncé was Ashanti's biggest rival. At that time, Beyoncé was gearing up to release her debut album 'Dangerously In Love.' Ashanti was the bigger artist at the time. She was preparing to release her sophomore album at the back of the astonishing success of her 'Ashanti' debut. A debut which sold over 500,000 units in one week.
That very year, the New York Times had ran an article with the headline, "The Solo Beyoncé: She's No Ashanti." No one knew Beyoncé's success and popularity would outrank Ashanti's by a million to one. It was like watching a horse trailblazing a snail in a race. As sales declined for each Ashanti record, Beyoncé's career soared and only went from strength to strength. She is now considered one of the world's biggest pop icons. Now the reason behind this history lesson is prior to the announcement today that Ashanti will be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame next year. 2022 is also the 20th anniversary of her debut album, which she’s previously stated she plans to re-record.
This is great news for Ashanti and I'm very happy for her. But at the same time, I can also understand why the Beyhive are upset that Ashanti and DJ Khaled are getting stars before Beyoncé especially since her records and prestige speaks for itself and proceeds those who have stars.
Her fans are convinced she may never get a star since she already has one with Destiny's Child. But does she deserve a solo one for herself? Absolutely. In a way, Beyoncé's "Birthday" website is practically the new Hollywood Walk Of Fame anyway.
Wow I’m speechless. Super humbled and super honored. I can’t believe it. I’ve been inducted into the Hollywood walk of fame class of 2022! I’m actually getting a Star on the Hollywood walk of Fame! Thank you guys so much for all of the love and continued support ❤️ @wofstargirl pic.twitter.com/tpNwL0tdB7

You do know that people pay for a Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame, right? It costs THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to have a Star. Not the star themselves, but probably executives like Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles from her Murder Inc/Def Jam days or ASCAP felt that she deserved a Star for her contributions & success in the music business over the years. I'm pretty sure that one day down the road, a Live Nation or a former Columbia Records/Sony executive like a Doug Morris will vouch for Beyoncè to get a Star also!
ReplyDeleteNot to try & diminish Ashanti, Khaled, Bruno Mars, Niecy Nash, Tracy Morgan or a Wendy Williams' accomplishment of having a Star, but I'm sure executives vouched for them also because of their successes for their respective labels/networks!
If Anyone Deserve One, It Should Be Brandy!!! Who Has Ashanti Influence...
ReplyDeleteMadonna needs one on every street in the USA.
ReplyDeleteWell, the way Madonna presented herself in the past and now she looks like she belongs to every corner in the USA. Laughing stock and fallen star
ReplyDeleteWhen is Aaliyah getting one.
ReplyDeleteI get the fact that she had a short career but she has been influential to this day. Please do not comment any nasty thing about her as I know it usually does. She changed the sound of RnB music and fashion. She has continued to inspire today's artists. She has always been referenced too be it in music videos. She really does deserve it for real. PLEASE PLEASE 🙏. GOD please make this possible( prayer 2 the LORD above).
