So many female black artists have been taken advantage of contractually. Kelis knows, and condemns it.
New artists were always compelled to sign scammy 360 deals that would shoot them in the foot later. Scents of desperation of those wanting to "make it" was weaponized by labels. Sadly, those labels wanted their talent for crumbs. Maybe even cheaper than a KFC bargain bucket. Some labels even refused to issue their artists with bigger budgets if they did not recoup back the investment in large album sales.
On that note, fair play to Warner Music Group who is donating $100 million to support charitable causes related to the music industry, social justice, and campaigns against violence and racism!!!!
