Yesterday saw Alicia Keys play Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' during the 'Celebration of Life' memorial remembering the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.
The reason why Kobe's wife Vanessa Bryant asked Alicia to play Moonlight Sonata was because not only was it one of Kobe’s favorite pieces of music, but also because he learned to play the first movement of it by ear as a gift to Vanessa. It took him less than a week to learn it. Such a beautiful, empowering story. Alicia previously received appraisal for keeping it together hosting last month's Grammy Awards hours after the tragic news broke that Kobe had been killed in a helicopter crash along with eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter. The ceremony, just like yesterday's memorial also took place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles.
