In case you missed it, Normani performed her latest single 'Motivation' at the Streamy Awards over the weekend. I don't know what THIS is. I've seriously never heard of it. All I saw was a crowd of untalented social media influencers. On top of that, the performance wasn't up to Normani’s usual standards.
The stage was tiny. Her vocals have sounded better and she didn't really push herself with the choreography. Normani first performed 'Motivation' at the MTV VMAs on August 26th, and this was the momentum she needed for the song. She aced the performance. Everyone was talking about it. The hype was there at that point. She also drummed up a lot of publicity for her participation at Rihanna's Savage x Fenty fashion show a month later. The song only peaked at #33 on the Billboard Hot 100. She gets one televised high profile performance. Well, two televised performances if you want to include this low budget showing. Her former band mate Camila Cabello announced her 'Romance' album in October. In between October and now, Camila has performed on SNL, Fallon, Ellen, Graham Norton and all sorts of popularized platforms. The album dropped last week. No delays. No promo limitations.
OK, so it probably helps that this is Camila's sophomore album (and not her debut), so she's kind of proven herself as a solo artist with the massive success of 'Havana' (a number one song) and vice versa. Her label are more comfortable. But even with her debut album roll-out, it was waaay better than what is being served up with Normani. I personally don't think RCA quite knows what to do with her (wouldn't be a first, see Tinashe). Either that, or she needs to fire her management and get herself a brand new team, STAT.
