On Monday, Mariah Carey officially became the first artist ever to have a #1 song in four different decades: the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.
This was achieved with ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You,’ which has remained at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a third consecutive week. With the number one hit, Mariah has now passed a vaunted list of artists who had past achieved the feat in three decades: Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Usher.
The festive classic was first released in 1994 off her album 'Merry Christmas', and re-released this year to commemorate its 25th anniversary. The quarter-century gap means that the song's ascent to the top spot is the longest in the history of the chart. Mariah has now achieved 19 number one hits over the course of her career, scoring her first number one hit with 'Vision of Love' in August of 1990, just eight months short of another decade in the 1980s. As a result of garnering her 19th Hot 100 number one, she extends her record as the soloist with the most #1 hits in history. The song has already broken Spotify records and then some. Congrats to Mariah and I wish all of my readers a Happy New Year. See you all in the New Year dahliiings!
