Beyoncé edges closer to earning her first Oscars nomination.

Bey's Oscars dream lies in wait.
On Monday (December 16th), The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced shortlists in consideration for the 92nd Academy Awards in nine categories.

Of those categories, Beyoncé was shortlisted in the Best Original Song category for her song 'Spirit' from 'The Lion King.' The cut was not only featured on 'The Lion King' official soundtrack but also on her own album 'The Lion King: The Gift.' Perhaps the committee might just decide to give Bey a break after she was highly snubbed during the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards. Her highly-anticipated Netflix documentary, 'A Film By Beyoncé' was nominated for six categories and lost in every single one. Normally, these things don't bother me. Yes, Bey's performance was flawless. The hard work that went into it couldn't be denied without a shadow of doubt. But most of the anger stemmed from the sheer hypocrisy of the Emmy Awards. They gave Dan Reed's 'Leaving Neverland' an award for best documentary in the non-fiction category. Because, that doc (if you can call it that) was filled with nothing BUT fiction, and that was proven beforehand.  After accruing a whopping 23 Grammy Awards, Bey earning an Oscar nomination would be all kinds of epic. It's still a long shot at the end of the day, but just to be in the running is still awesome news. Watch this space.
