Will Mariah Carey EVER get her 'Songwriters Hall of Fame' honor?

The most overdue honor of all time, next to Janet's
Sometimes one has to ask themselves just how prestigious this Songwriters Hall of Fame honor really is. I mean, Justin Timberlake picked up his honor in June, yet legendary songwriters like Mariah Carey gets inducted three times and still can't get a look in. Mariah attended their ceremony last year because she was supporting her long-term friend and collaborator Jermaine Dupri when he picked up his honor. I mean... it was well deserved, and not just because he was the mastermind behind her epic comeback album 'The Emancipation of Mimi.' I still listen to that album constantly like 2005 never left us. But when she's standing there presenting JD with his award, I wonder what must be running through her mind. Obviously, she is not going to publicly talk out of place, because she doesn't want to come across as bitter or disrespectful and she is genuinely happy for her friend. But surely they must have mentioned it behind the scenes? You write classic gems like 'Hero' and 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' but no honor after all that time?! Those songs are over 20 years old for crying out loud!

The shortlist for the Songwriters Hall Of Fame 2020 was announced yesterday, and of course Mariah received another nomination. Nominees become eligible once they have hit the 20 year milestone of writing songs, and it's well established that Mariah co-wrote 17 of her 18 Hot 100 number ones. The Hall’s 51st annual Induction & Awards Gala takes place on June 11th 2020 in New York, where six finalists will be inducted. Maybe third times the charm for Mariah? Fingers crossed!
