Ariana Grande has just released her new song 'Bad To You,' featuring Normani and Nicki Minaj. It is lifted from the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack, which was executive produced by Ariana and arrives today. The "treat em mean keep 'em keen" anthem is just your typical run of the mill pop song with lowkey reggae vibes. Plus it seems she's recycling the beat/rhythm from 'Side to Side,' all because she simply ran out of ideas. That said, can we just focus on Normani's underwhelming contribution to the song? Now for those struggling to tell Ariana and Normani apart, it is Normani singing the first verse, before Ariana comes in. I had to listen to the song twice before I realised, as their voices are not really that distinguishable. Nicki's verse was just okay. Could Normani have been utilized better? Absolutely. But this was an opportunity and she took it. I think we should just appreciate this song for being the cute little bop that it is. Nothing more, nothing less. As for the soundtrack, it is not being well received either. The consensus is that it sounds like a bunch of throw away Ariana tracks.
Seems Ari doesn't really have the creative capacity to executive produce an entire soundtrack on her own. But the film itself doesn't look like anything to talk about either, so why waste good music? Anyway, for those that care, the Elizabeth Banks-directed reboot of Charlie’s Angels–starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska—hits theaters on November 15th.
