New Music: Mary J. Blige – ‘Whole Damn Year’ + ‘Therapy’...

Love can come with so much heartbreak, and that's the message Mary J. Blige is conveying with her new music.

‘Whole Damn Year’ and 'Therapy' are two cuts she premiered off her upcoming new album 'The London Sessions.' The latter is really good, serving doo-wop vibes and 60s classic soul. The throwback-sounding track was co-written by British hitmaker Sam Smith.

Mary sings about getting professional help after going through a heartbreaking split. If Adele and Amy Wimehouse had a musical baby, this is what it would sound like. Mary also reflects on another traumatic break-up on ‘Whole Damn Year,’ which serves as an emotionally scarred, minimalistic piano-laced ballad. It's a decent track and her vocals are nice, but the melody is tediously boring. The song goes for Urban and Urban AC adds on September 30th.
