Cheryl Cole tops UK iTunes chart in 42 minutes...

It's amazing what a gimmicky marriage announcement can do for a really shit song. In just 42 minutes of its release, Cheryl Cole's new single 'Crazy Stupid Love' (featuring Tine Tempah) stormed straight to the top of the UK iTunes chart yesterday.
If the single snags the number one spot on the Official Singles Chart next Sunday (July 27th), Cheryl will join Rita Ora and Geri Haliwell as only the third British female solo artist to achieve four UK number one singles. Granted, this would not have happened if the song wasn't available for pre-order during the last two months and had radio not have supported it.

Public perception of the song has been very underwhelming. It's also interesting that Rita and Geri are the only UK females to shore the four UK number one's.

Their underwhelming album sales have never been reflective of their chart successes. In fact, Rita's debut barely scraped the 300K mark. In the grand scheme of things, this just shows that having a chuck load of number ones is not always a true portrayal of an artists overall selling power or quality.

Here's hoping Cheryl hits the mark with her follow-up single because she certainly can do a whole lot better than this (she wouldn't be my guilty pleasure otherwise). 'Crazy Stupid Love' serves as the lead single from her fourth studio album 'Only Human', slated to drop in November.

Thoughts?
