Back then, a marriage certificate later surfaced showing the pair allegedly married in 1994, when Aaliyah was just 15, and Kelly, 27. It was later reported that her parents had the marriage annulled.
Over the years, Kelly has rightfully had the pedophile label attached to him following his sexual abuse of under-aged black girls. Unfortunately, he received no jail time and was free to pursue a successful music career afterwards despite a video showing him urinating on a minor.
Kelly’s own brother Carey reportedly accused him of molesting their 12-year-old cousin, and made further claim that he attempted to sexually target their older brother’s daughter. Executive-producer Debra Martin Chase has addressed how they will proceed with documenting Aaliyah and Kelly's relationship.

It is so clear to see why Aaliyah's family is fighting hard to block the movie’s production. If that was my daughter, I would not want to relive the terrible moment I found out my child married a sexual predator.
I understand that they need to tell her story from the beginning, but the personal nature of their relationship does not need to be explored. Out of respect for her mother, it should not be explored, PERIOD!
Fans deserve a tribute that will document the positive moments of her life such as the stunning music she delivered and her talent. It should be a celebration of the beautiful soul she truly was, inside and out. No need to scandalise this biopic by crossing the line for ratings. SMH.
