Leona Lewis departs Simon Cowell's Syco label + signs with Island Records...

Leona Lewis has departed Simon Cowell's Sony imprint Syco, after signing with the label seven years ago. This was following her win on The X Factor in 2006. She has signed a new deal with Universal label Island Records, which is house to top notch artists like Drake, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj. Considering that she was hailed the new Mariah once upon a time ago, it's baffling to witness how quickly her career has peaked.

Her last album 'Glassheart' badly underperformed and she was never able to duplicate the astonishing Stateside success of her debut single 'Bleeding Love' and its assisting album 'Spirit.' She was also seen as the biggest (and most talented) successor to come out of the X Factor, well, at least before One Direction came along anyway. Hopefully, she will be able to reclaim back some of that glory.

Speaking on the signing, Leona adds:
"After seven incredible years at Sony I feel honoured to be given the opportunity to sign to perhaps the most iconic label of all, Island Records. To me Island has always been a label where artists can really flourish and are encouraged to express themselves. Island stands for quality music and signing with such a legendary label is really like a dream come true for me. I can’t wait to start making music with my new team."
Whether this move is one that pays off, it's definitely a fascinating turn and I can't wait to see what strategic and creative development comes out of it.
