Rihanna has reportedly fulfilled her label contract with Def Jam, and has officially signed with Jay Z’s Roc Nation.
MTV News has learned that the label change occurred in April 2013, when Hov partnered Roc Nation with Universal Music Group. According to our source, Def Jam will still play a role in the marketing and promotion of the pop star’s music, but she is technically a Roc Nation artist and it is unclear whether the Def jam logo will appear on her next release.
Rihanna was first brought to Def Jam by Jay Z in 2005, during his days as President and she's released seven albums with them since. She's currently recording a new album, which is expected to drop later this year. It's a good job Rihanna is a well established artist, because Roc Nation are not known for creating superstars. Without that pulling power, they can't do much for the artist. Receipts? Rita Ora and Willow Smith have been stuck in limbo. In Ora's defense, she's still gripping that slippery rope but how long for? However, good luck to Rihanna on her new musical endeavors.
