Ashanti sales predictions are in for 'Braveheart'...

It's make or break time for Ashanti. According to Hits Daily Double, the R&B chanteuse is on course to sell between 18-21k units of her new album 'Braveheart' during the first week.

Given the struggle she's encountered with this independently released album, the zero hit single and multiple pushbacks, these numbers are, uh... not so tragic. Okay, so in keeping it real, they're not good for an established artist like her. However, she sold more than I anticipated to be honest. Fellow R&B songstress Ameriie sold less than this when she was signed to Island Def Jam, a major label.

Back in 2009, her 'In Love & War' album sold a lackluster 12,500 copies in its first week. Nelly Furtado was also signed to major label Interscope when she sold a pitiful 9,000 copies in her first week with 'The Spirit Indestructible' (2012). It just goes to show that being signed to a major doesn't always guarantee desirable results if you no longer have the pulling power to command an audience (Rihanna, Beyoncé, etc). At the end of the day, she gets to keep a large percentage of the profits from each copy sold. So, it's not all doom and gloom on her behalf.
