New Music: Shakira feat. Rihanna – ‘Can’t Remember to Forget You’...

Roc Nation beauties Rihanna and Shakira drop their new single 'Can’t Remember To Forget You' on VEVO today! The song is lifted off Shakira’s new album, due early this year on RCA/Sony Latin Iberia. 'Can’t Remember To Forget You' is about a woman's inability to finish with her boyfriend. She despises herself for always going back to him despite knowing it’s the wrong decision. From personal experience with a certain Mr. Brown, it's definitely something Rihanna can relate to.

Unfortunately, this is as close as it is going to get to sounding like a Rihanna record. Sonically, 'Can’t Remember To Forget You' is strictly Shakira's territory. In fact, it sounds like Shakira's other rock-tinged pop songs, with some ska elements a la No Doubt. I was also expecting a vocal clash of sorts with both Shakira and Rihanna's unique singing voices and hard to understand accents. However, their voices actually work well together. It's definitely a Shakira record, but Rihanna brought as much flavour as she could considering the song. No, it's not my cup of tea, but I hope the song is a hit for them and I look forward to seeing the Joseph Kahn-directed visuals when it premieres.
