Five years ago, she gave a New Year’s Eve concert for Mutassim Gaddafi, the son of the now deceased Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. Of course Mariah apologized because the fallout was huge and she offered to donate funds to charity. But since then, this has not deterred Mariah from performing for other dictators. Last month, she was allegedly paid $1 million to sing for Jose Eduardo dos Santos, the president of third world Angola who has often been accused of kidnapping and torturing dissidents. She also performed for money managers in the strife-ridden nation of Nigeria in early December.
Then just under a week ago, she reportedly performed at a New Year’s Eve event hosted by the sultan of Brunei, one of “the world’s enduring dictators” according to CBS News. Mariah was reportedly paid $1.5 million for the performance. I always notice how rich people are often driven by their fear of being poor (again) and it's always those that grew up in the harshest of poverty's that jump on any given opportunity. Doesn't matter how much money they have in the bank. It's never enough. MC strikes me as that type of person, simply because she is. She's not selling records the way she use to anymore, so doing this has pretty much become her safety net. The question is, do you blame her?
