Nice job: Rihanna snags thirteenth #1 hit with ‘The Monster’...
That Rihanna reign huh? This week, Rihanna scores her thirteenth #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 'The Monster', her featured collaboration with Eminem.
It is also Eminem and Rihanna’s second #1 following 'Love The Way You
Lie' which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in 2010. But what does it all mean?
Rihanna now ties Michael Jackson for the third most #1s in the Hot 100′s history, surpassing Madonna and the Supremes. Only Mariah Carey and the Beatles have more hits. Not to take away from her accomplishments but 6 of the 13 number ones were not her songs, they were features. Back in the day it was so much harder to get those #1's, because artists weren't privileged to receive a chart push with iTunes and YouTube streams. Secondly, legendary acts like Mariah, Janet, Madonna, and MJ all achieved their number #1's with solo songs. This is all a testament to how much the industry has changed and how easier it is in this day and age to surpass records set by legends. But regardless of that fact, congrats to both Rihanna and Eminem.
