After a long wait, the gals are back with their first real single 'Flatline', produced by Solange collaborator Dev Hynes. The problem is, their material back in the day was so good that the pressure was truly on to come back with something truly amazing. Over pounding drums and a crisp guitar riff, the trio deliver beautiful harmonies as they convey pure emotion over a deteriorating relationship. But does the song live up to the hype?
'Flatline' is a nice album track but as a comeback song, it just isn't sensational. Yes, the harmonies are stunning as always, but I expected something with a bit more oomph. Something more edgy and fierce, because we know they're capable. Their upcoming new album, slated to drop later this year, features writing and production duties from Sia, Shaznay Lewis, Cameron McVey, Naughty Boy, Richard X, William Orbit and MNEK. Shameless plug I know, but one album of theirs I'd recommend is 'Angels With Dirty Faces'. It was released 11 years ago and it was SB at their best.
